QNAP releases Orthanc, a lightweight DICOM server, for QNAP NAS

December 27, 2017 By BlueAlly

Taipei, Taiwan, December 27, 2017 - QNAP Systems, Inc. (QNAP®) today announced the release of Orthanc for QNAP NAS. The Orthanc project provides a free and open-source ecosystem that turns QNAP NAS into a lightweight-yet-powerful picture archiving and communication system (PACS). Designed for healthcare environments, Orthanc greatly improves medical imaging flows. With all DICOM images conveniently stored in your NAS—coupled with the advanced web-based DICOM viewer— image analysis is greatly simplified.

"With Orthanc support, we aim to extend the functionality of QNAP NAS to cover the medical industry. A QNAP NAS can now act as a PACS backup server for doctors and researchers to archive their DICOM images on a secure and expandable storage solution. With network accessibility, Orthanc on QNAP NAS provides an extremely convenient solution for users to view the DICOM images from anywhere.” said Aseem Manmualiya, Product Manager of QNAP.

Users can transfer DICOM images to the NAS by drag and drop, and can query patient images by using a patient ID, name or study description. For each study, there is a DICOM image viewer for users to view and analyze DICOM images.

Orthanc is now available to download from the QTS App Center.

  1. Orthanc is available for all x86-based NAS models with QTS 4.3 (and later).
